'A child lay in the street, as if asleep. Actius rushed past. he could see the deadly blow to the young boy's head and the large molten rock that lay next to him. The edges of the boy's tunic were scorched from the large flakes of ash that had been falling on him.
Close by, a dog chained to a building pulled on his chain in a frenzy - unable to escape but aware of the heat and danger. All around, cries of desperation rang in Actius' ears. There was nothing he could do.'
